Arsonists destroy waterski club

A waterski clubhouse destroyed by arsonists overnight will have to be pulled down, police in Kent have said.

Foreness Waterski Club in the Palm Bay area of Cliftonville, Margate, was set alight on Wednesday night.

The blaze was discovered at about 2320 GMT when police officers on patrol in Broadstairs saw smoke rising.

Crime scene investigators from Kent Police said the back door had been forced open and alcohol stolen from the clubhouse, which opened in 2005.

Some of the alcohol was later recovered by police.

A Thanet District Council officer visited the site during the early hours and deemed the property to be unsafe.

The waterski club, which was established in 1967, acquired the venue in May 2004 and converted it from a cafe. It had a bar, social room, kitchen, showers, changing rooms and toilets.

Kent Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them.
