Inmate found hanging in his cell

A 21-year-old prisoner has been found hanging in his cell at a Kent prison.

David English was serving a life sentence at HMP Swaleside, on the Isle of Sheppey, for possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life.

A spokesman for the Prison Service said he was found dead just after 0715 GMT on Sunday. Swaleside Prison is a category B training prison.

"As with all deaths in custody, the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will conduct an investigation," he said.
