Drink awareness campaign begins

A campaign to promote sensible drinking is getting underway in part of Kent in a bid to reduce crashes, anti-social behaviour and domestic violence.

The "Just the One" campaign is being launched in Tonbridge.

Figures have shown that 34% of violent crimes and 13% of sex crimes in the borough are alcohol-related, the area's community safety partnership said.

About 600 residents in the borough are admitted to hospital every year because of drink-related accidents or illness.

Posters will show a series of messages such as "just the one life", "just the one chance to make a first impression" and "just one for the road".

The campaign will run in the area for six months and includes police operations, education projects, and advice clinics.

The hope is that it will also lead to reduction in incidents in the run-up to Christmas.
