Man held after stolen car crash

A teenager has been arrested after a stolen car which was being followed by police crashed into parked cars in a Kent village in the early hours.

The 18-year-old man, from Westgate on Sea, was taken to the Medway Maritime Hospital after the crash on the A2 in Teynham and released after treatment.

A 16-year-old boy from south London, who was also in the car, is still in hospital with leg and back injuries.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission is looking into the crash.

Kent Police said the car involved was a Ford Focus which had been stolen on Tuesday evening following a burglary in Faversham.

At the time of the collision at about 0330 GMT it was being followed by a marked police car after it failed to stop for a routine patrol.

"We want to thank the local community for the help and support they have given officers today with this investigation," said Ch Insp Tony Henley.

"This was a serious collision, but thankfully due to the time it occurred the roads were quiet and no members of the public were injured."

The A2 was closed between Station Road in Teynham and the Western Link roundabout in Faversham on Wednesday morning.
