Lone women attacked on same night

Police patrols are being stepped up in a part of south Kent after three attacks on women who were out alone.

Police said all the assaults happened on Friday night and early Saturday morning in the Grand Parade, in the Greatstone area of New Romney.

One of them was a serious sexual assault, while the other two were physical attacks.

A mobile police station has been set up nearby to reassure people and house-to-house inquiries have taken place.

New leads

Drivers were also stopped in road checks on Saturday night to see if they had any information.

Police said that had resulted in a number of new leads which were being followed up by the investigation team.

Officers have urged people not to walk alone, and to ensure they let others know of their whereabouts, including details of when they are likely to arrive at a particular place.

Ch Insp Martin Bradley said: "We recognise the concerns of people in the area and would urge them to enjoy their night out as normal but paying due regard to safety."
