Two boys have pleaded guilty to an attack which nearly killed a 17-year-old A-level grammar school student.
Sam Eastwell was found with serious head injuries in Albion Place, Ramsgate, Kent, on 7 August.
The boys, aged 16 and 17, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, admitted charges of wounding with intent and robbery in relation to the attack.
They were remanded in custody at Canterbury Crown Court to be sentenced on 8 December.
Organ failure
Sam, a pupil at Clarendon House Grammar School in Ramsgate, sat in the public gallery with his family and watched the proceedings.
During the attack, his wallet containing £75, his mobile telephone, an MP3 player and two gold rings were stolen.
Sam was on life support after the assault with multiple organ failure.
His parents, Sharon and Stuart, kissed him goodbye before he went into surgery, where a large section of his skull was removed.
However, Sam surprised surgeons at King's Hospital in London by making a rapid recovery and returned to his home in Ramsgate last month, five weeks after the attack.
