Plea to name man found on beach

The unresolved case of an unidentified man whose body was found washed up on a beach in Kent 13 years ago has led to a renewed appeal for information.

He was found on Sandgate Beach on 26 October 1995, and it is believed he may have died up to six weeks previously.

He is described as white and was aged between 20 and 35, 5ft 10in (1.7m) tall, of medium build with light brown hair. He was missing a lot of teeth.

The charity, Missing People, wants to hear from anyone who can identify him.

Records checked

When found, the man was wearing a black turtle-neck jumper with a zip at the front and the words "Influence de Luxor the authentic knitwear", and a pair of blue and white trainers with Velcro fastenings. He was also wearing a gold coloured chain.

The charity said it had checked its records for clues as to a possible identity, and a facial reconstruction of the man was also produced, but no conclusive match had so far been made.

Teri Blythe, head of Missing People's identification department, said: "In most cases an unidentified person is also a missing person, so it is likely that this man will have family and friends out there who do not know his fate.

"We therefore hope that this appeal will bring some vital clues that will lead us to identify this body and put an end to someone's distress."
