Murder hunt after man shot dead

Police have cordoned off the scene of the Medina Road murder investigation

A murder investigation has begun after a 51-year-old man was shot dead in his bed at his home in Kent.

Police were called to a house in Medina Road, Ditton, near Aylesford, shortly after 0300 BST. It has been cordoned off while officers gather evidence.

The shooting victim has been named locally as Daniel King.

Family members said it was believed he was in bed with his wife at the time of the shooting. Two children were also in the house.

Neighbourhood police officers are patrolling the area and speaking to people who might have information.

A mobile police station has also been sited on The Green, off Medina Road.

Police want to speak to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Medina Road area on Thursday evening or in the early hours of Friday.

Ch Insp Tony Thomas said: "This is a fast moving investigation, but it is safe to say that we are following a number of lines of inquiry and we have specialist officers actively involved in the investigation."

He said a plea had gone out to the local community or those passing through for any information whatsoever "so we can pursue this investigation with rigour".
