A 70-year-old woman who was killed by a hit-and-run driver on a pedestrian crossing in Kent has been named.

Shirley Leedham, from Harrietsham, died on Thursday after the accident on the A20 near the railway bridge in the village.

Police are still looking for the driver of the vehicle involved.

Mrs Leedham's husband and two sons are going to the collision scene on Tuesday afternoon to appeal to the motorist to come forward to police.

They will also read a tribute to Mrs Leedham and appeal for witnesses to the accident.

Speed limit

Police investigating the incident interviewed more than 1,000 drivers using the A20 on Friday morning.

All drivers approaching the scene were stopped and questioned between 0800 BST and 0930 BST in a bid to discover more information about the accident.

Harrietsham residents have called for the speed limit on the A20 through the village to be reduced from 40mph.

They are also looking at setting up a Speedwatch scheme, manned by volunteers, to catch speeding drivers.
