The official handover of the Olympics to London is being celebrated throughout Kent.

An Olympic Handover flag was raised in several towns as part of the national events to mark the end of this year's Beijing games.

The occasion has been marked by the official opening of the Marlowe Community Athletics Track in Ramsgate.

In Herne Bay, hundreds of people joined the celebrations in London live on a big screen in the town.

Free sporting activities and family events were organised throughout the county, including a street party along Dover seafront.

The handover flag was delivered by river in Maidstone.

The flag-raising ceremonies were attended by local sporting heroes and dignitaries and 2012 Olympic hopefuls.

Public swimming pools across the county also offered free entry to people of all ages during the day.
