Two 16-year-old boys have been remanded in custody over an attack which left a 17-year-old boy unconscious.

Sam Eastwell, a schoolboy from Ramsgate, Kent, was found with serious head injuries in Albion Place in the early hours of 7 August.

The two boys from Ramsgate, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Margate Magistrates' Court charged with wounding with intent and robbery.

They will appear at Margate Youth Court on Wednesday.

Sam, an A-level student at Clarendon House Grammar School, has undergone two operations in a London hospital since the incident and has been on life support.

He remains in a critical but stable condition in a London hospital, Kent Police said.

"Our thoughts are with Sam, who I understand has shown signs of improvement, and his family," said Supt Chris Hogben.
