Sevenoaks District Council is to review the future of the town's revamped arts venue after the operators pulled out.
Kino Holdings Ltd, which runs the Stag theatre and cinema in Sevenoaks, has cited financial difficulties combined with poor trading and low ticket sales.
The theatre remained open for Sevenoaks Festival activities, which ended on Monday night, before closing its doors with the loss of 15 jobs.
On Tuesday, Kino handed back the keys to the venue to the council.
It had signed a 25-year lease only last September.
The council said it was disappointed and would now review the options.
