A second man has been charged with the murder of a 36-year-old man who was attacked in his home in Kent.

Ted Shaxted died from his injuries at Dartford's Darent Valley Hospital on 16 December 2007.

He had been in a "serious condition" following the attack at his home in Wallis Park, Northfleet, on 2 December.

Bill Saunders, 27, of Shamrock Road, Gravesend, appeared before Dartford Magistrates' Court, where he was remanded in custody.

He is next due to appear before Maidstone Crown Court on 7 July.

Trevor Lees, 35, of London Road, Northfleet, was charged in March 2008 with murdering Mr Shaxted.

He pleaded not guilty at Maidstone Crown Court on 2 June 2008. His trial is set for January.

Kent Police said one man arrested previously in connection with this incident remained on bail pending further inquiries.

A post-mortem examination revealed Mr Shaxted died from multiple organ failure caused by trauma to the chest.
