Ferry firm taking foot passengers

SpeedFerries has operated out of Dover for the last four years

A ferry operator which runs from the Kent port of Dover is to expand its operation from next month.

SpeedFerries, which is Dover's smallest ferry operator, provides the only link to the French port of Boulogne.

From 11 July, foot passengers as well as vehicles will be carried on its high speed catamaran, which takes 50 minutes to cross the Channel.

A spokesperson for SpeedFerries said its decision to take foot passengers was due to "popular demand".

The Danish company began operating out of the Eastern Docks in 2004 but last year switched to the former Hoverport at the Western Docks, vacated when Hoverspeed pulled out of Dover.
