Armed robber targets supermarket

An armed robber walked into Sainsbury's and threatened a security guard with a handgun at the store's main entrance before stealing a cash box.

Kent Police said the incident happened at Folkestone's Park Farm Industrial Estate on Thursday afternoon.

Members of the public chased the man who got into an Audi A4 saloon car and drove off at speed. Nobody was injured.

The cash box was found discarded, with the money still inside, after the security dye was activated.

Appealing for witnesses, police said the red or orange dye would have contaminated the skin and clothes of anyone handling it.

The vehicle was found abandoned in Belinda Court, after the robbery at about 1620 BST, and recovered for forensic examination.

The man was described as white, of medium build and height, in his 20s, wearing a grey hooded top and dark glasses.
