Two deny charges over £53m raid

Two men accused of being involved in Britain's biggest cash raid have appeared in court.

Paul Allen, 29, and Michael Demetris, 32, both denied charges of conspiracy to kidnap, conspiracy to commit robbery and conspiracy to possess a firearm.

Mr Allen, of Chatham, Kent, appeared via prison video link, and Mr Demetris, of Bromley Common, south London, was in the dock at Maidstone Crown Court.

The charges relate to the £53m raid on a Securitas depot in Tonbridge in 2006.

Mr Allen, who was remanded in custody, and Mr Demetris, who was released on conditional bail, are alleged to have carried out the offences between 27 July 2005 and 23 February 2006.

Both will face an Old Bailey trial in October.

They are accused of conspiring with five other men who were jailed in January after being found guilty of kidnap, robbery and firearms charges.
