Radio DJ remanded in 'abuse' case

Radio DJ and voiceover actor Barry Bethell has appeared in court on child abuse charges and been remanded in custody to await trial.

Mr Bethell, 65, of Kimberley Grove, Whitstable, Kent, is accused of 26 offences including possessing indecent images and indecent assaults.

He appeared before Canterbury magistrates where he did not enter any pleas to the charges.

Mr Bethell was arrested in February and charged with four offences.

He was charged with a further 22 offences last month.

He is accused of taking and possessing indecent images between 2001 and 2008, and also of indecently assaulting two girls under the ages of 13 between 2004 and 2008.

Mr Bethell, who appeared in SlimFast TV adverts in the early 1990s, will appear at Canterbury Crown Court on 6 May.
