Detectives investigating the fatal shooting of a man have issued an appeal about incidents in a Kent nightclub.

David O'Leary, 31, was found outside his home in Valley Road, Lydden, Margate, in the early hours of 1 March.

Officers have now said they are keen to trace a man believed to have been assaulted in DV8, in Marine Terrace, Margate, by Mr O'Leary on 8 February.

In a separate incident that night, an associate of Mr O'Leary is also said to have assaulted a man at the bar.

Police said the man suffered a cut face.

'Vital information'

In the first incident earlier that evening, the victim, who was with his brother, was knocked out.

Door staff reportedly intervened in the incident, and the man regained consciousness.

Both victims declined police and medical help.

Det Ch Insp Maria Shepherd stressed neither men were suspects in the murder investigation.

"We have been given information about the two assaults and we are keen to trace the men and talk to them.

"They may have vital information that could lead us to Mr O'Leary's killer," she said.

'Suspect fled scene'

Mr O'Leary was shot dead after returning home from a night out with his partner, Emma Terry, with whom he had three children.

Police said it was not a random killing.

Earlier this month, officers appealed for anyone who may have seen the suspect running away from the scene at about 0245 GMT.

The suspect was about 5ft 6ins to 5ft 8ins tall with dark clothing and either very dark hair or a black bobble hat.

He reportedly ran away from the scene very quickly.
