A Royal Mail sorting office in Kent was at the centre of a security alert after white powder was seen coming from a damaged package.
The emergency services were called to the building in Vale Road, Tonbridge, by staff at 0730 GMT.
The package was contained within the office and a Royal Mail spokeswoman said tests carried out on the substance later showed it to be harmless.
The sorting office remained open for business as usual.
The spokeswoman added: "We have well-rehearsed procedures for dealing with any such instances and will always involve the emergency services upon the discovery of any suspicious substances in the mail.
"The health and safety of our people is our prime concern."
