Overhead power lines are being removed from two beauty spots
Overhead power cables are being removed at two beauty spots in the Kent Downs, electricity firm EDF has said.

Underground cables will replace overhead lines at Cobham Park near Gravesend, and St Margaret's at Cliffe near Dover in the £362,000 plan.

Spokesman Nigel Collier said work on the areas of outstanding natural beauty (AONBs) would begin in 2009.

He said the project was being funded by a special allowance given to EDF by the industry regulator Ofgem.

Last year, similar schemes were approved at two other AONBs in the county - White Horse Wood Country Park and Ightham Mote.

Underground cables will be installed before old overhead equipment will be deactivated and removed.
