Boxing champ on benefit charges

Takaloo holds the World Boxing Union welterweight title
World champion boxer Takaloo and his wife have appeared in court charged with benefit fraud.

Iranian-born Mehrdud Takalobiagashi and his wife Sarah are jointly accused of falsely claiming social security, housing and council tax benefits.

Mr Takalobiagashi, of Upper Park, Loughton, Essex and his wife, of Gainsborough Avenue, Margate, Kent, appeared at Canterbury Crown Court.

They were released on bail until 30 April when they are due to enter pleas.

The alleged offences took place between April 2003 and September last year, the court was told.

Mr Takalobiagashi holds the World Boxing Union welterweight title.
