Two firemen and a carpenter from Kent are spending two weeks paddling around the coast in sea kayaks in aid of the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund.

Mark Foulds, 35, Brett Meridith and Shaun Cullen, both 41, set off from Lands End, in Cornwall, on Thursday, to head back to St Margaret's Bay, Dover.

They are travelling about 37 miles a day, and camping each night on a beach.

Mr Cullen said that by the end of Sunday they would have completed about 90 miles of their 450-mile journey.

The trio are completely self-sufficient, carrying all their food, camping and survival gear in their boats.

They are hoping to take 14 days to reach their destination, and are rowing at distances of up to 13 miles away from the coast.

"We get out of the boats every two to three hours to stretch our legs," Mr Cullen said.

Speaking to BBC Radio Kent on Sunday, he added that the weather conditions had not been too bad.

As well as trying to raise £3,000 for the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund, the men are promoting fire and sea safety along the way.
