An historic town in east Kent is to benefit from a cash boost of nearly £14,000 for improvements.

It will be spent on replacing broken flood lights at the war memorial in Tenterden, improving the town's museum, and a new village sign at St Michaels.

Nearly £9,000 will be used for an open storage for exhibits and the creation of research and study facilities at the Tenterden and District Museum.

The improvements will be funded by the Tenterden (Tesco) Grant Fund.

The museum is located in a two-storey weather boarded building and covers more than 1,000 years of local history.

Councillor Gerry Clarkson, of Ashford Borough Council, said: "The Tenterden Museum really does need this investment, and the other two smaller grants fit the bill in making those small, but significant improvements to the town that foster a pride in the upkeep and wellbeing of Tenterden."
