A man being investigated over internet child porn allegations which involve girls from Canada and west Kent has had 19 further charges brought against him.

Mark Bedford, 21, of Glengarry Road, in Kingston, Ontario, appeared in court for a hearing on Tuesday.

Police in Canada said the new charges had been added to 16 previous charges, and involved eight girls.

Kent Police said no charges so far involved girls from the county, but investigations were continuing.

The force previously said it expected charges relating to up to 42 young girls from west Kent to be brought against Mr Bedford.

British police were alerted in April by a concerned parent and the suspect was arrested in a joint operation in July.

Kent Police's child protection unit is being kept up to date by the Canadian authorities who are leading the inquiry.

Mr Bedford currently faces charges of extortion, sexual assault, communicating with a minor for the purpose of child pornography, possessing child pornography, making child pornography to print and publicise, distributing and selling child pornography, impersonating with intent and computer hacking.

It has been alleged he persuaded girls to strip and perform sex acts in front of a webcam.

Mr Bedford remains on conditional bail ahead of another court appearance scheduled for February.
