Crews said there had been three incidents in the past three months

Raids on ambulances in north Kent where thieves targeted satellite navigation systems have led to warnings that the equipment has "no real value".

Christopher Stamp, general manager, said the systems only work with the 999 communication system.

He said there had been three incidents in three months possibly by people hoping to make money before Christmas.

He said he was surprised someone would "stoop so low" as to raid a vehicle primarily there to save lives.

In the latest incident, a teenager stole equipment while the ambulance crew were inside a residential home in Herne Bay treating an elderly woman for breathing difficulties.

Mr Stamp said: "One of the crew returned to the vehicle to find a young man in the process of ripping out a part of our sat-nav system.

"This young man ran off down the road with the piece of equipment."
