A man who stole a car with a 19-month-old boy strapped in a child seat in the back is being hunted by police.

The black VW Golf was driven away while the child's mother was putting bottles into recycling bins at a site on Suffolk Way in Sevenoaks, Kent.

A man was caught on CCTV half an hour later abandoning the toddler at Otford railway station, a few miles away.

The uninjured boy was reunited with his mother after Friday morning's incident.

Officers were called to the railway station by a member of the public who had found the abandoned child.

The man pictured carrying the boy into the station is described as white, aged in his late 20s, 5ft 8in to 5ft 10in tall, and was wearing a blue hooded top and blue jeans.

The stolen black VW Golf - registration Y343 MJO - has not yet been found.

In a statement, the boy's father said the day's events had been "extremely distressing", but said he and his wife were "immensely grateful to have our son back with us unharmed".
