Landing emergency plane now safe
A plane has landed safely at Manston airport after reporting problems with its landing gear.

Emergency teams were on standby at the airport on Sunday while engineers checked the cargo plane's equipment.

Officers said contingency plans were put in place to ensure public safety. A spokesman said that the plane landed just before 1400 GMT.

The airport sad the aircraft was flying from Gatwick to Manston on a positional flight when the problem emerged.

'Burning fuel'

As the plane circled Manston, the airport confirmed the situation was being treated as an emergency and police said it was not a terrorist incident.

A spokesman for the airport said the plane was an EU Jet Fokker 100 which had to circle the airport to burn off fuel.

"In light of the strong winds in the area, the airport has declared an emergency," he said.

Fire engines were on standby at the airport which runs cargo and leisure flights.
