Mocking website angers residents
Snodland town sign
Snodland is the butt of many jokes, says website creator Bob Simms
A computer expert has angered the residents of a Kent town with a website which mocks their home.

Bob Simms, who lived in Snodland for 24 years before moving to Rochester, says he developed the site because he had become bored by jokes about the town.

Snodland, which he calls "pig ugly", is described online as the "playground of the jet set".

George Chapman from the town council said: "It's not the buildings that you love but the people."

'Grain of truth'

He thought there could be a benefit from the website. "I don't know, maybe it will end up putting Snodland on the map," he said.

Mr Simms says he never meant to cause offence.

"People fall about laughing when they hear the name and a lot of my friends didn't believe such a place existed, so I decided to create the site," he said.

"There's probably a grain of truth about the observations of small town life otherwise it wouldn't be funny."
