School awarded specialist status
A Medway school has become the first in Kent to be awarded specialist status in Media Arts.

The Hundred of Hoo School will be given tens of thousands of pounds in extra funding to set up a Media Arts Zone.

The institute will have the latest equipment and form links with other schools so more students can benefit.

Eleven other schools in Kent and Medway were also awarded specialist status as part of a government drive to push up education standards.

The schools will specialise in one of 10 subjects - ranging from music to business and enterprise.

Each of the schools will receive additional funding over the next four years.

Anthony Williams, head teacher of the Hundred of Hoo, said: "This is terrific news for both the school and the community.

"A number of staff have worked exceptionally hard to make this happen and our success is largely down to them."
