Girl electrocuted on railway line
Track at Broadstairs Station
The girl slipped and fell on the live rail as she took a short-cut
A 12-year-old girl was electrocuted on a Kent railway line as she took a shortcut across the tracks to reach a station platform, police have said.

The girl was with a group of friends when she slipped and fell onto the 750-volt conductor rail at Broadstairs Station on Sunday at about 0800 BST.

Paramedics treated her after the area was evacuated and the power was turned off, but she died at the scene.

A police spokesman said the incident was not being treated as suspicious.

The spokesman said witnesses would be interviewed, but on Monday her friends were too distressed to talk.

He said: "We are concerned about reports that other youths were crossing the tracks before this happened."
