Plans for a £5m theatre and business complex in an East Yorkshire town have been approved. The centre in Hornsea will include a 300-seat auditorium and stage and conference facilities with sea views. East Riding of Yorkshire Council is paying £3m towards the scheme and is seeking the remaining £2m from regional development agency Yorkshire Forward. Darren Stevens, the council's head of culture, said he was "delighted" the plans had been approved. He added: "This brand new venue represents significant investment in Hornsea. It will be a boost for local arts as well as the economy. "It will include theatre and conference facilities which will mean we can bring a broader range of events to the resort." The council hopes to open the centre by summer 2012.
