Det Ch Insp Mark Oliver

Det Ch Insp Mark Oliver said it was believed Mr Foster, from Hull, had been drinking with friends in the Witham area.

He said officers wanted to speak to people out in the area at the time, especially those in the Holderness Pub, Witham, Blacksmiths Arms in Naylor Street, the Red Lion and Plimsoll Ship Inn.

Police said Mr Foster has two children, aged 19 and 21, and that his family had described him as "a good dad and loving son".

Mr Oliver said: "Stephen Foster was a respectable hard-working family man with two grown-up children.

"We now need the public's help in order to bring the person responsible for his death to justice.

"So please help by contacting the police if you have any information about the incident or the people who may be responsible."

Mr Foster's family are being supported by specialist trained officers.
