Council invests in new gritters

North Lincolnshire Council has bought five gritting machines to keep the area's roads clear this winter.

The new vehicles are fitted with GPS tracking systems which will give information to the driver on how much salt is being discharged.

They have cost £450,000 in total and were made at an engineering factory in Ripon, North Yorkshire.

The council said its gritting team was committed to making roads as safe as possible for motorists.

Councillor Bernard Regan, cabinet members for Highways and Planning, said: "The council has dedicated teams of drivers who are on standby around the clock and ready to go out in all weather conditions to keep our road network clear.

"This can be quite a tough task but this season it will be made easier with these new gritting vehicles and the modern technology that they have."
