East Yorkshire heart centre opens

A £48m Centre for Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery has opened at Castle Hill Hospital in Cottingham.

Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust said the centre would enable 2,000 more operations to be carried out each year.

The facility was officially opened on Friday by the Home Secretary and Hull and Hessle MP Alan Johnson.

The centre boasts five operating theatres, consulting rooms and diagnostic facilities.

It forms part of a £250m programme of capital investment by the trust.
