The council said smoking was one of leading causes of premature deaths

The job of a tobacco control co-ordinator has been created in North Lincolnshire in an effort to drive down the number of smoking-related deaths.

The £40,000-a-year officer would be tasked with reducing the number of smokers by giving support and advice.

The council said smoking was one of the leading causes of health inequality and premature deaths.

The post is a project between the NHS trust and council, with funding coming from the Department of Health.
