RNLI Lifeguards will provide week-round cover during the summer season

New lifeguard teams have started patrolling Bridlington's beaches.

The RNLI has taken over responsibility for lifeguard cover on the town's north and south beaches from East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Trained lifeguards will also be on Hornsea and Withernsea's beaches seven days a week from 4 July.

The RNLI is taking over lifeguard services from local authorities across the UK. It already protects more than 100 beaches.

The charity said the move was part of its aim to "provide a seamless rescue service from the beach to the open sea".
