People asked to criticise council

A Hull council is appealing for people to volunteer to criticise its councillors and policies.

Hull City Council wants residents to join become a scrutiny co-optee.

A spokesman for the council said the role involved looking at policies and procedures and making sure residents' best interests were at heart.

The scheme, which would involve a few hours a month, is part of the council's "If it's local be vocal" campaign encouraging people to have their say.

Paul Johnson, scrutiny and democratic services for the council said: "Scrutiny has an important role in the way the council is run.

"There are many duties a co-optee could be involved in.

"It may include helping the council and chief officers with the budget...questioning councillors and officers about their plans, and helping to make council policies."
