Police on trail of graffiti tags

Generic graffiti
Graffiti across Hornsea has prompted complaints

Graffiti vandals in an East Yorkshire town who have been spraying "tags" on houses, road signs, bus stops and buildings are being targeted by police.

Humberside Police said a spate of the tags had prompted complaints from residents and traders.

In some cases the tags had been sprayed on the windows of buildings which had "spoiled the look of the town".

A spokesman for Humberside Police said clearing the paint up had cost a large amount of money.

PC Chris Prendergast, of Hornsea Police Station, said: "We need the public's help in identifying the persons responsible for painting and spraying on private property, windows, road signs, walls in Hornsea town centre.

"Over the last few months there have been dozens upon dozens of graffiti tags and logos appearing. This is not art work but an unsightly mess, which is spoiling the look of the town, let alone the expense and time cleaning the mess up."
