Buses carry 'safer sex' message

Adverts highlighting the importance of safe sex to young people in Hull will be carried on buses and radio stations.

The council and NHS Hull are trying to raise awareness of contraception and sexually-transmitted infections.

A recent survey found only 78% of young people in Hull expected to use a condom when having sex for the first time.

The adverts will also point young people to a website featuring the answers to the most frequently asked sexual health questions.

Gail Teasdale, from the Hull teenage pregnancy Unit, said: "This campaign is to raise awareness among young people.

"We aim to ensure they have access to information and services to ensure that if they chose to have sex they do so safely.

"It also aims to dispel the myths that 'everyone is doing it' and help young people resist peer pressure until they feel ready."
