Royle Family star in honours list

The actress played Nana in The Royle Family

Veteran actress Liz Smith, who was born and raised in North Lincolnshire, has been recognised in the New Year Honours list for her services to drama.

The Scunthorpe-born actress, best known for her role as Nana in The Royle Family, has been made an MBE.

She came to television relatively late in life, aged almost 50 when she first appeared on screens in Leo The Last.

Wynne Griffiths, chief executive of Young's Seafood in Grimsby, has been made a CBE.

In East Yorkshire, Alice Middleton, the founder of Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide, has been made an MBE for her services to vulnerable people.

David Hampson, principal of Tollbar Business and Enterprise College in North East Lincolnshire, has been appointed OBE.

And Brian Mummery, honorary curator at Immingham Museum, has been appointed MBE in recognition of his services to heritage.
