A youth has appeared in court charged with the murder of a 65-year-old woman who was found dead in her flat in Hull.

Irene Roberton was found by officers in her home on Euston Close, off Anlaby Road, in the early hours of Sunday.

The 17-year-old youth, who cannot be named, was also charged with attempted murder relating to an earlier incident in the city, and aggravated burglary.

He was remanded in custody at Hull Magistrates' Court to appear before the city's crown court on 7 January.

Police said the attempted murder charge related to an alleged attack on an 18-year-old man on Anlaby Road flyover at 0220 GMT on Sunday.

The aggravated burglary charge relates to the death of Mrs Roberton.

Police have appealed for anyone with information about either incident to come forward.

They particularly want to speak to anyone who saw a man carrying an axe in the Anlaby Road area between 0200 and 0310 GMT.
