Woman rescued in 14th floor blaze

Fire crews rescued a woman who was trapped in a blaze on the 14th floor of a Hull tower block on Monday.

Control room staff gave her survival advice on the phone until crews arrived and she was taken to hospital suffering from the effects of inhaling smoke.

The cause of the fire, described as "severe", is being investigated.

The fire, at the Great Thornton Street flats, was quickly dealt with. A fire service spokesman said it showed the importance of having an exit strategy.
