Job cuts at city boiler company

The firm is to cut 30 jobs not long after 73 other posts were slashed.

A boiler firm in Hull has announced it is to cut a further 30 jobs, months after 73 posts were lost.

Ideal Boilers, based in National Avenue, makes domestic, commercial and industrial central heating boilers but has been hit by the economic slowdown.

The firm is also continuing with short-time working for production staff until the end of the year.

Managing director Jeff Bowes said boiler sales had been disappointing and adjusting output had been necessary.

Mr Bowes said: "The market in which we operate has been very difficult this year and it is continuing to change very quickly.

"Although we are doing all we can to protect our sales volumes, analysis of the rapidly changing market shows that a further adjustment to manufacturing capacity is necessary. "

Mr Bowes said he anticipated "very difficult market conditions" running into next year.
