Driver dies after van hits tree

A man has died and a woman has been seriously injured in a road accident in East Yorkshire.

The crash happened when their Vauxhall Astra van hit a tree near the Humber Pilot pub on Beverley Road, Hull, in the early hours of Saturday.

The male driver who died has not yet been formally identified, a Humberside Police spokesman said.

The female passenger is in a serious condition in hospital. Police would like to speak to any witnesses.
