Car hits woman and child in buggy

A woman and a child in a pushchair were injured when they were hit by a car in York.

The accident happened on East Parade in Heworth in the east of the city just after 1800 BST.

The two casualties were taken to York District Hospital but are believed to have escaped with minor injuries, a North Yorkshire Police spokesman said.

The road was closed for about an hour, causing severe congestion to rush-hour traffic, police added.
