Rugby league player due in court

Ben Cockayne
The full-back's new contract keeps him at Hull KR until 2011

Hull Kingston Rovers player Ben Cockayne has been charged with trying to pervert the course of justice.

The 25-year-old is due to appear before Wakefield magistrates on 16 September along with a 21-year-old man, who is accused of the same offence.

The charges follow an incident last year involving the two men.

West Yorkshire Police confirmed to BBC News that two men aged 21 and 25 had been charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The pair have been bailed pending their court hearing.

Mr Cockayne signed a new three-year contract with Hull KR last week.
