A man suffered a broken jaw and lost five teeth when he was hit in the face with a rounders bat during an unprovoked attack in Hull.
The 26-year-old was cycling in Holtby Close on Wednesday afternoon when he was approached by a man who tried to push him off his bike, police said.
He was then hit in the face with a wooden bat as he stopped at the junction with Holderness High Road.
He was knocked unconscious but came round to find nothing had been stolen.
The man was taken to hospital and had to have his jaw plated and screwed.
"The attacker was not known to the victim and this would seem to have been an entirely unprovoked attack," a police spokesman said.
The attacker is described as being a slim, white youth, aged about 17 to 18 and about 5ft 5in tall.
He had short, mousey brown hair and was wearing a black hoodie, with the hood tucked in, and dark tracksuit bottoms.
