Police chase driver badly injured

A man has been seriously injured when his car crashed while being pursued by police in North Lincolnshire.

He suffered serious chest injuries when the car hit a hedge as he tried to drive across a field at Worlaby, near South Ferriby, late on Monday morning.

He was taken by air ambulance to Hull Royal Infirmary, where his condition is said to be stable.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has been informed of the incident.

A Humberside Police spokesman said: "A police car spotted a man who was believed to be wanted by police driving along the A1077 in a silver Vauxhall Vectra.

"The Vectra was followed by police through South Ferriby, Horkstow, Saxby, Bonby and Worlaby at which point the vehicle turned off the road and attempted to drive across a field.

"A short time later the vehicle was in collision with a boundary hedge which caused extensive damage to the car."

Accident investigators attended the scene of the collision on Monday afternoon.
