The Hull and Humber Clipper is assured of a podium position and could even challenge the top spot in the Round the World yacht race.
The crew finished in third place on the leg from Nova Scotia to Cork and with luck and good sailing could overhaul the race leader to secure victory.
The event finishes in Liverpool on 5 July after 10 months and 35,000 miles of ocean racing.
The race is currently being led by the boat New York.
The Hull and Humber yacht was entered in the race to promote the region.
The boat's skipper Danny Watson said: "It's always a balance of trying to make the boat go fast without breaking it.
"That's the challenge of trying to get a boat around the world.
"We raced hard as usual. We had good fun, we're still very upbeat and enjoying it and we said it's very important that we enjoy it.
"We want to run a safe, fast, fun Hull and Humber and I think we did all of that."
