Hauliers want a cut on the duty imposed on fuel

Hauliers in the north of Lincolnshire have taken part in a fuel price protest convoy along some of the region's busiest roads.

The protest convoy travelled at around 20mph from Caistor to Grimsby via Brigg on Saturday afternoon.

Humberside Police said they had traffic officers escorting the group of lorries along the route which included the A180 and M180.

Protest organiser Alan Overton said hauliers wanted a cut in fuel duty.

He said: "This [fuel price] isn't just affecting the haulage industry now.

"The haulage industry, for maybe five years, has been asking the government for help, and that help is for them to reduce the tax on fuel."

Supt Brian Kelly said officers wanted to ensure the protest did not cause safety problems.

"While respecting the right to demonstrate we will deal with offences that go beyond lawful protest," he said.
